Misery is a 1990 psychological thriller based on the book by Stephen King. It was written by William Goldman and directed by Rob Reiner. It stars Kathy Bates and James Caan. It is about author Paul Sheldon getting into a car crash and getting "rescued" by his number 1 fan Annie Wikes who keeps him captive in his house because in his newest book, he killed off her favorite character. Annie Wikes is absolutely insane, and Kathy Bates is absolutely amazing in the role. And James Caan is damn good too. This movie is intense. Straight up suspense. The hairs on the back of my neck were always standing up. The movie is beautifully shot and written. This is my favorite Stephen King film, although I haven't seen too many of his movies. But none the less, the movie is great. It is shocking, loud, and realistic. The last scene is very brutal, as is the famous sledgehammer moment. This movie occasionally has akward moments and some pauses that last too long. As well as a subplot involving the sherrif and his wife worrying he's having an affair or something. If you're looking for an extremely well acted, well written, and well shot movie with extreme suspense, some akward moments and unnecessary subplots, this movie just may be for you!

SCORE: 8.5/10
